J&C Migrations is under new ownership and management.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why replace RPG?
RPGII, RPGIII, and CPG are proprietary, cryptic, and obsolete. They require
special computers, runtimes, APIs, licenses, and skills. RPG skills and
tools are not as plentiful or rich featured. RPG/400 is also cryptic
and proprietary.
Why JCM and not an ISO-9000 off-shore service?
Just compare the quality of our work, turn-around time, and references.
Manual conversions, however careful, introduce risk, errors, and inconsistency.
Our high quality automated translation reduces your risks and costs.
Why COBOL and not C or C++?
COBOL is the most common business language, with multiple vendors, as
well as the Open Source community, competing on Mainframes, Minis,
Unix, Linux, and PC environments. COBOL is based on a public standard,
and is the most portable, and best supported business language in
all of the above environments. COBOL is more readable and self documenting
than C, and provides Object Orientation facilities comprable to
those of C++. COBOL has as many trained programmers as C and C++,
if not more.
When
should I convert and not replace?
A conversion lets you benefit from past investment.
While packages can be bought off-the-shelf, certain legacy applications
perform processes that are unique to your business, and give your core
business a competitive advantage.
Why convert?
- Your working software contains valuable Business Rules and Data
Definitions. If you need to maintain or enhance business applications,
or to recover lost documentation from your program sources, then
translating your RPG components to structured COBOL will provide
readable sources, as well as let you use best of breed tools for
extracting data structure, documentation, and know-how from your
existing applications.
- If you have a mixture of RPG and COBOL applications, you may be
paying more for software licenses, skill set retention, and configuration
management.
- You need to improve performance (e.g., for SLA) beyond the capabilities of
the hardware alone.
- System or database upgrade, or a change of strategic platform may
require
migration of applications.
- Division reorganization or company acquisitions may require
unification of heterogeneous data processing.
What are JCM's technical advantages?
- An automated, repeatable process with
turn-around times that allow you to dictate the schedule.
- The generated COBOL is structured, readable, standard compliant,
and highly portable.
- The translation even allows you to retain comments in proximity
to the code they document.
